This subsidy is given only to those who possess the welfare board card issued by the Tamil Nadu government. If you ask whether it’s for everyone who has this card, that’s not the case either. There’s a twist there too.

What is it? There are many types of welfare boards under this welfare board card:

• Matchbox Workers Welfare Board
• Firecracker Workers Welfare Board
• Goldsmiths Welfare Board
• Laundry Workers Welfare Board

There are many types of welfare boards like these. This ₹20,000 subsidy is given only to those registered under the “Gig Workers” welfare board card.

Who are these Gig Workers?

Gig Workers? If you ask who Gig Workers are, all those who are engaged in online, internet-based jobs come under the category of Gig Workers. That is, due to the emergence of many e-commerce websites like Amazon, Flipkart, and Meesho, in many places, products are ordered online and delivered to the doorstep. For this door delivery, whether it’s regular products or food products, the delivery is invariably done by motorcycle.

Their main requirement is a motorcycle. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu government is providing a subsidy of ₹20,000 to those who buy e-bikes. The Tamil Nadu government has officially announced that this ₹20,000 subsidy will be available only to those who do this type of work and have registered for and obtained this card.

How to register for the card?

Okay, I’ll explain how to register for this card. To register for this card, you must meet the following criteria:

• You must be above 18 years of age and below 59 years of age.
• Importantly, you should not have PF or ESI deductions.
• Similarly, you should not be registered with any other type of welfare board card.
• Also, you should not be registered in any other welfare scheme provided by the Tamil Nadu government.

If you meet all these conditions and are a gig worker, you can register for this welfare board card.

1. To register, go to the website displayed here. If you look at the bottom, you will find an ‘Apply’ button.
2. Clicking that button will take you directly to the page. Here, you will need to enter your registered mobile number, and then press Enter. An OTP will be sent to your mobile number.
3. Enter the OTP and submit it to proceed. At this point, it will ask for your Aadhaar number.
4. Enter your Aadhaar number and verify it. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar number. Enter that OTP and verify it.
5. It will then take you to the next page. Here, you need to select the welfare board. You will see ‘Manual Labourers Welfare Board’; select that option.
6. Finally, you will see ‘Gig Workers (Internet-based jobs)’; select that option as well.
7. After selecting this, the next page will ask for your name, your father’s name, and your date of birth.
8. Next, for age proof, they will ask you to attach a document.
9. Upload your ration card number and the ration card PDF file, and then go to the next page.
10. On this page, it will ask for your address details. Enter your address details correctly and proceed to the next page.
11. Next, you will be asked to select your occupation-related details. So, if you look at this, what do you do as a gig worker? If you are delivering products, you can mention ‘Delivery Boy’ here.
12. On the next page, it will ask for your bank details; provide those bank details. The important thing is that you should only provide details of government-owned banks; do not attach private bank details here.
13. On the next page, it will ask for details of your family members.
14. After that, nominee details.
15. Then, you will have to provide details about your work certificate, that is, where you obtained your work certificate.
16. Finally, after uploading your Aadhaar card and the work certificate, taking a live photo, and submitting it, you will receive an acknowledgment. You can check the status using that acknowledgment number and your mobile number.

Once approved, you will receive the welfare board card, that is, the registration card.

How to apply for the subsidy?

So, after you apply for this card and receive it, go to the website displayed here, click on the ‘Login’ button, and log in using your registration number and password. There will be a ‘Claim’ button at the top. Click on that button to apply for the ₹20,000 subsidy.

Before applying for this application, you must have registered and obtained this type of welfare board card. Only after registering and obtaining the card should you purchase the bike, and you will need to upload the invoice for it. Only then will the ₹20,000 subsidy amount be provided.
