Want to sell on Meesho without GST? This complete guide explains 0% commission, payment cycles, ads, penalties, and the Meesho Creator Program.
Hello everyone, A few days ago I saw a video that said you can sell products on Meesho without a GST number. Until I found out how to sell products without a GST number, I will share with you through this post all the things that I know and everything you need to know if you want to sell a product on Meesho.
History of Meesho
I think it would be good to start this post with a small intro about Meesho. When Meesho was launched in 2015, Amazon and Flipkart were at the top of their game. If they want to compete, then we need terrible branding and marketing, so we will do all this branding and marketing on our own.
Reselling in Meesho
They said that they could also give the same marketing and product selling work to resellers and they made a plan, they said that if you fix the margin for the product that is available on Meesho, add that margin to that margin and use your social media account or promote that product and sell it in any way, they would give you the margin amount that you would have fixed.
Due to this, many resellers came to this platform and started promoting and selling all those products. When this was going very well as Meesho expected, the name of Meesho also started to be famous in many places.
Problems in Reselling
Along with this, something unexpected happened. As many resellers came onto the platform, they all sold the same product to customers at different prices, creating a fierce competition among them.
In the midst of this competition, Meesho also introduced the image search feature. Whether this feature was useful to resellers or not, it was very useful for resellers to upload images to Meesho and make direct purchases of the same product at a lower price from Meesho.
As if this were not enough, even if they ordered a product from resellers, when it was delivered, it looked like they were receiving the product from Meesho.
When the customer checked the price of the product on Meesho and saw that it was not worth it, they started to fight with the resellers, saying, “Why are you selling this product to me for such a high price?” This is why many resellers started to leave this platform.
In addition, Meesho also stabbed the resellers, who were the main reason for their growth, in the back and said that from now on there will be no reselling option on our platform, and instead, we will promote it through direct selling.
The reason why Meesho made this decision is not only because Meesho wants to make more profit. It is also because of the losses Meesho has incurred due to the fraud committed by some pack resellers.
Meesho Creators Program
After eliminating resellers, they have joined hands with creators and launched a program called Meesho Creator Program in 2025. To join this program, you can join if you are a social media content creator, blogger, or website owner. After joining, they have told you that if you promote Meesho products through your content and sell them, they will give you a certain percentage commission.
By now, you must have heard the stories of the early days of Meesho. Now, let’s see what kind of charge they slam on for selling products on Meesho. As for Meesho, they tell you 0% commission. This is also the case with them.
0% Commission?
On Meesho, you don’t need to pay any amount to list a product that you can sell. When a customer buys the product you list, they don’t charge any amount for the commission. If you tell them that there is no listing commission and then they say that they will charge some amount from the seller, then they don’t charge any amount.
How Meesho Makes Money
Meesho gets income from two main revenue sources. One is shipping. The delivery fee for an order placed on Meesho will be paid by the customer. In case the customer returns the order, then the reverse shipping fee for that order will be paid by the seller. Their delivery partners will try three times to reach the customer. If after trying so, the customer cannot be reached or the parcel cannot be delivered due to some other problem, then it will be returned to the seller who sold the product. They will call this a return to origin. They have said that in such cases, they will not charge any penalty to the seller.
When comparing other platforms, Meesho’s return rate seems to be lower, and many sellers have said that Meesho has a higher product return rate, even though the official data is not accurate. So keep this in mind and think about your pricing, even if you pay the charges for this. You can only escape without incurring losses if you don’t make mistakes.
Meesho Ads
The second revenue source is advertisements. You can run ads on Meesho to list and promote products that you can sell on Meesho. They have said that they will deduct the cost of these ads from the payment to be made to sellers. Apart from this, Meesho can operate without any commission from the listing fee as revenue comes from a few other sources. Not only that, they have also said that they will not charge any penalty if the seller cancels the order or if the order is auto-cancelled due to some situation.
Penalty
If a seller enrolls in the Next Day Dispatch program and fails to dispatch a product the next day, they will charge a penalty of 2.5% of the order value per day from the date the order is placed until it is dispatched. So, only enroll products that you think can be dispatched the next day in this program.
Payment Cycle
As for payments, they have said that it will arrive in your account seven days after the product is delivered. They have also said that it will arrive in your account after seven days. They have also said that it will be included in the cash on delivery payment.
How to Sell Products Without GST
Now let’s see how to sell a product without GST. Once you click on the Start Selling option, you will be asked to enter your mobile number. The OTP that you may have received on that mobile number will be the same as the one you entered. After this, in the next step, you will be asked to enter your name, email ID, address, and PAN details.
After you enter the details, Meesho will register for GST for you and give you the enrollment ID for it. Otherwise, you can sell products by directly registering for GST and entering the enrollment ID for it here. Even though it says “Sell Without GST,” you cannot sell products here without doing GST registration.
Then there will be two GSTs. One is regular, and the other is composite. There is a difference in tax rate and maximum turnover for both of these. It is very good to know all this and then register separately. Otherwise, you can register for GST through the persons who are available or through the lawyer search platform, which is a partner of Meesho.
My Opinion
Even with all these things, what can I say? If you have just started selling products online, and you think that you can’t do all the GST registrations from now on and pay a lot of commission, then you can freely sell products through Meesho.
Especially for Meesho, the cheapest and best products are the most popular. So if you are selling a premium category product at a high price, Meesho will not be suitable for you. My suggestion is that those who are new to e-commerce business should try Meesho to test how their product sales are online. Remember that when you try it, sales and returns will come. After the sales of your product have picked up to some extent, list it on other platforms and fix your price according to the cost of that platform and sell it.
Don’t just rely on other platforms; build your own website. Try taking direct orders through that website. You can use paid ads for this, or you can create content on social media and promote your products through that content. There is no such thing as promoting only your own products. You can also get affiliate income by promoting and selling other products. Therefore, in the current market situation, it would be best if you also created content for an online store. Tell us your opinion in the comments.
